Daiwa Kohga Bayrubber Free Lures
KOHGA or ‘Red Fang’, is the culmination of over 50 years of Japanese lure development. Which, coupled with extensive field testing and advanced hydrodynamic design, has resulted in the creation of the most technically advanced sliding lure available in the New Zealand market. During their research Daiwa lure engineers identified that Snapper in particular have impaired depth perception and struggle to track stationary targets. It was derived that constant movement was then the most important factor in maximising a lures efficiency. By separating the head, skirt, and hooks, all components on the Kohga can move freely without restriction.
The head of the Kohga lure features a range of innovative designs. A proprietary ceramic tube is inserted through the weighted component of the lure. This serves to protect the leader material by effectively dissipating heat and allowing the lure to slide smoothly up and down the line preventing damage. A hydrodynamic keel design stabilises the lures movement through the water column. This increases the sink rate while allowing the lure to resist spinning to minimise potential for tangles on retrieve. While the tapered head design enables the lure to adapt to high and low current situations and maintain optimal swimming action at all times.
Not to be outdone, the skirt and assist hooks on the Kohga are equally innovative. A tubular plastic bumper has been integrated into the skirt and sits between the weighted head and assist hooks. This serves to protect the leader knot from the repetitive impacts of the sliding weight. The skirt has been securely attached to this tubular bumper with a combination of whipping thread and glue to markedly increasing longevity. The assist cord features a fluorocarbon core which maintains optimal hook placement while limiting the chance of snagging hooks on the leader. While ultra-sharp Japanese Saq-Sas assist hooks, with up to 40% increased penetration, ensure you have the maximum chance for a positive hook up on the bite.
Available in a range of proven colours with high contrast UV paints, holographic stickers to increase refraction of light and actively attract nearby fish, and abalone bite markers to trigger a predatory response.
